ARCTIC DRIFTER 2001 - PROGRESS REPORT 12/08/01

Current position 66º 55’ N

Now waiting for better conditions to get round Kunna [a sort of Ardnamurchan]

Heading for Bodo where we will probably pull the boat out so we can fly back on 24 August.

Trip to date has been much colder than last summer. Very poor summer by Norwegian standards.

Highlights

Anchoring under the Svartisan Ice Cap

Yvonne putting crampons on for the first time and going for a 'walk' on the glacier

Finding a luxurious mountain hut were we could have stayed if we had taken overnight rations.

Crossing the Arctic Circle

The sun shining

The wind blowing in the right direction occasionally but some much better sails than last year.

Finding more cockles than last year
