SCOTTISH GRAND FLEET DAY AND RALLY 2007

LARGS YACHT HAVEN

Saturday 26th May - Monday 28th May

For the Grand Fleet Day in Scotland , we aim to attract members who do not usually attend rallies, or who used to, plus those who are interested in owning a Drascombe, in addition to the regulars. We will have some boats on show, including hopefully a new Drifter 22 and also aim to offer a sail on Saturday or Sunday to those who are interested and have some experience. Your co-operation here would be much appreciated. The rally will be followed by a cruise for live-aboards till Sunday 3rd June.

Sailing waters

The Firth of Clyde is said to be the birthplace of leisure sailing-no wonder! For our Rally Week-end and Grand Fleet Day, we have the choice of sailing around the two Cumbraes or visiting the South of Bute ( Kilchattan Bay, Ascog, Glencalum Bay etc.). Get your charts out (Imray 2900.4 or Admiralty Chart SC1907) and have a look.

We have selected Largs to enable those based in Northern England to come and join us – it is a straight forward tow up the M74 then the M8, approach Largs either via Greenock or the A737 / A760 via Johnstone and Lochwinnoch.

Launching and mooring

You can launch from the free public slip, on your right as you approach the marina. This slip is viable for top half of the tide, see above. There is a second slip within the Marina, viable for all but two hours. This costs £7, D.I.Y. It helps if you are able to launch on Friday. Marina berths are £11 per night per Drascombe, as last year. Largs Yacht Haven offers all marina services including a chandlery.

Accommodation

Sleep aboard, or park a caravan or motor camper in the Marina grounds (£10 per vehicle for the week-end) or camp at nearby Kelburn Park (£20 per tent for 2 nights; Phone Maddy on 01475-568685). There are many B&Bs in Largs, E-mail me for details.

Meals

There will be a Grand Fleet Day meal on Saturday evening. I will assume everyone attends this, unless they say otherwise in advance. Pre-booked guests are welcome. The cost will be £13 per head. There will be a barbecue lunch on the Sunday on Great Cumbrae (accessible by ferry for shore parties) we will provide burgers, sausages and rolls (£3.00 per head) you are welcome to bring extra food.  We have made no arrangements for dinner on the assumption the BBQ will satisfy most!

There are three eating venues at the marina, as well as others in Largs to suit all tastes.
